About

The PAAL Conference is a forum for academic exchanges among scholars and practitioners in applied linguistics and related areas. The conference provides a venue for the dissemination of current research on a wide variety of issues concerning Asia and beyond. This year, the conference is held at Tamkang University, Taiwan.

The 21st PAAL Conference is held at Tamkang University, Tamsui, Taiwan from Monday, 22nd to Wednesday, 24th of August, 2016. Tamsui is a sea-side district in New Taipei City in nothern Taiwan. Tamsui means "fresh water" in Chinese, and is very famous for beutiful sunsetting.

Tamkang University is one of the best universities in Taiwan, founded in 1950. The university has been always esteemed as the top-class university in Taiwan.

Presentation format

  1. Paper: 20 minutes for presentation and 10 minutes for discussion and questions.
  2. Poster: 2 hour blocks will be designated for display and discussion.


Submission guidelines

Proposals

All the presenters at PAAL 2016 are required to be a member of PAAL.
  • Limit your proposal to 400 words or less.
  • The deadline of submission of proposals is 7th May, 2016
  • The notification of acceptance is expected to be sent by the 14th May, 2016.

Proceedings

All the presenters at PAAL 2016 are required to submit their papers to the Proceedings of PAAL 2016.
  • The deadline of submission of proceedings is 30th June, 2016.
  • Submit your paper on the website.
  • Limit your paper to 2 pages.

To be a member of PAAL, please complete the subscription form and pay the annual membership fee. You are required to be a member of PAAL to make a presentation at the conference. Membership fees can be paid by PAYPAL or Postal transfer. Unless you pay for your membership fees annually, your membership will be terminated. Your co-authors also need to be members of PAAL as well and their membership fees should be paid in advance before you submit your joint paper(s).

The deadline for the paper submission was 30th of June, 2016.

You are required to be a member of PAAL to make a presentation at PAAL 2016. Please keep in mind that both you and your coauthors (if you have any) are required to be a member of PAAL. To be a member of PAAL, please complete The subscription form and pay the annual membership fee for 2016.

Membership fees can be paid by PayPal or Postal transfer. Unless you pay for your membership fees annually, your membership will be terminated. Your co-authors also need to be members of PAAL as well and their membership fees should be paid in advance before you submit your joint paper(s).

Conference fee for PAAL2016


The conference fee includes the PAAL 2016 participation fee, the proceedings, two coffee breaks and two lunch boxes at the conference site. If you would like to join the conference dinners on the second day of the conference, please choose "Conference fee plus Banquets." We have the conference dinner at Chef A-Ji dimsum restaurant.

Travel Information

From Taoyuan International Airport to Tamsui

  • By Taxi: Taxies are available 24 hours a day. It takes about one hour from the airport to Tamsui.
  • By Public Transformation System: Take a Taipei City-bound bus at the airport and get off at Taipei Main Station. Then take the MRT Tamsui Line (Tamsui-bound) to Tamsui Station (the terminal station).

From Songshan International Airport to Tamsui

  • By Taxi: Taxies are available 24 hours a day. It takes about 40 minutes from the airport to Tamsui.
  • By Public Transformation System: Take the MRT Wenshan-Neihu Line (the brown line, Taipei Zoo-bound) at the SongShan Airport Station below the arrival hall of the airport and get off at Zhongxiao Fuxing Station. Then transfer to the MRT Nangang Line (the blue line, Yongning-bound) and get off at Taipei Main Station. From there, take the MRT Tamsui Line to Tamsui Station, the terminal station.

From MRT Tamsui Station to Tamkang University

  • From MRT Tamsui Station, take Bus R27 or R 28 to the Tamsui Campus (bus fare is NT$15 per person). An alternative would be to take the taxi. It would take about 5 min. and costs around NT$110 (by the meter, may be a bit more if there is traffic).
